Hyderabad: BRS Working President KTR has approached the Supreme Court seeking disqualification of MLAs from Telangana who defected to other parties. A bench comprising Justice BR Gavai and Justice Vinod Chandran heard the petition filed by KTR on Monday. Senior lawyer Arya Ramasundaram argued on behalf of BRS.
The petition filed by KTR was linked to a previous petition on the same issue. The Supreme Court clarified that the petitions regarding the disqualification of BRS MLAs D. Nagender, Kadiyam Srihari, and T. Venkatrayudu would be heard together with KTR's petition. The Supreme Court adjourned the next hearing to the 10th of this month, stating that it would consider the petitions together.
A petition filed by BRS MLA Padi Kaushik Reddy, seeking the disqualification of defected MLAs, was also heard in the Supreme Court two days ago, where the court made important remarks. The Supreme Court expressed its displeasure with the Telangana Speaker. It criticized the delay in taking a decision regarding the defected MLAs and questioned how much more time was needed. In the previous hearing, the court had asked, "How much time do you need to take a decision? Until the end of the Legislative Assembly term like in Maharashtra?"
The court directed the lawyer Mukul Rohatgi to inform the Speaker of the time required. The subsequent hearing was adjourned. It is known that Padi Kaushik Reddy and Vivekananda filed a petition seeking disqualification of defected BRS MLAs Kadiyam Srihari, D. Nagender, and T. Venkatrayudu.
