Amaravati: Minister Nara Lokesh Responds in the Legislative Council

In response to questions raised by the members in the Legislative Council regarding the number of students, details of employees, filling of vacancies, and the development of universities in the state, Education and IT Minister Nara Lokesh answered. The Minister clarified that all vacancies in universities in Andhra Pradesh will be filled this year. He also mentioned that the process would begin as soon as the One-Man Commission report is received. There are 4,330 sanctioned posts in universities, but only 1,048 posts have been filled. There are 3,282 vacant posts, which will be filled, he stated.

In the NIRF rankings, we are ranked 9th. The Gross Enrollment Ratio (GER) in Andhra Pradesh is 36.5%, compared to Delhi's 49% and Tamil Nadu's 47%. In the state, Chittoor and Guntur districts have a GER of more than 45%. Anantapur, Kurnool, and Srikakulam districts have a GER ranging from 30% to 35%. He also mentioned that the representation of women in STEM courses is low. He noted that only 1,400 patent filings have occurred in the state. He revealed that the state ranks 9th in the NIRF rankings.

Strict Notification to Avoid Controversies

After the coalition government came to power, a focus was placed on sector-specific institutions under the name "LEAP (Learning Excellence in AP)." The government decided to cluster colleges, polytechnics, ITIs, and universities. He mentioned that they had requested NVidia to set up a Center of Excellence in Andhra University (AU). Minister Lokesh said they would strengthen startup incubation. The state government has allocated Rs. 2,000 crores in the budget for strengthening government universities. Regarding DSC (District Selection Committee) issues, he stated that they would study past mistakes and work towards issuing a strict notification to avoid legal controversies.
